We had an enjoyable day at Summerlee on 2 December. Joe Hall gave an inspirational presentation of the work he has completed in his illustrious career.

In the morning we had a discussion forum on ideas for our morning sessions and how we could maximise the benefits of these sessions for our members.

Riverside Museum trip

In the morning, at Kelvingrove Gallery, members enjoyed an informative talk by Paul Weston, the design manager at the new Riverside Transport Museum. Members then spent the afternoon at the Riverside, where they were able to experience first hand the result of the detailed design planning that went into the project.

The 2011 Awards will take place on 3 June at the Apex City Hotel, Grassmarket, Edinburgh. We will have our AGM in the morning, starting at 11am. In the afternoon we will have a presentation by Ben Morris, illustrator. The awards will take place at 2pm.

Paul Scharf from GF Smith gave a fascinating presentation on the history of design and GF Smith and Kevin Ramsay from Mc Robb Display updated us on the latest developments in the display business. East Renfrewshire updated us on their use of new media and increasing use of social media to reach their target audiences. Details of the venue can be found by clicking here.

Stills Gallery Photography Event

Members enjoyed an instructive and practical photography-themed day at Stills Gallery in Edinburgh. In the morning they were given a guided tour, by Alexander Maris, of the major exhibition in the galley of work by Alexander and Susan Maris – ‘The Pursuit of Fidelity (a retrospective)’

In the afternoon, following a tour of the facilities and a talk on photography, members were given a practical photo project and sent out with cameras for an hour and then given a critique of the work on their return.
